About the event
The Melfort Arts Council invites you to an engaging event featuring Métis artist Leah Dorion. With a background in teaching, painting, filmmaking, and writing, Leah brings a wealth of experience and creativity to both her workshop and adjudication role.
Drawing from her extensive academic and creative endeavors, including contributions to children's literature and documentaries, Leah's art centers on the reverence of Indigenous women and their cultural wisdom. She emphasizes the pivotal role of women in transmitting knowledge across generations.
During the workshop, scheduled from 1 pm to 3:30 pm, participants will have the opportunity to explore Métis culture and symbolism while creating their own Bison artwork under Leah's guidance. Using her book "Métis Camp Circle" as inspiration, attendees will delve into the rich teachings associated with Bison and celebrate Métis heritage through artistic expression.
